Granny's Rolls

Total Time: 1 hr 45 mins Preparation Time: 1 hr 30 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 36
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 6 -8 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 packages active dry yeast (red star)
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 7 -8 cups all-purpose flour, approximately,divided (pillsbury)
  • more melted butter, for brushing rolls

Recipe

  • 1 put water in a 2-cup measure and add 1 tablespoon of sugar and the yeast.
  • 2 let sit for a few minutes until it bubbles.
  • 3 in a large bowl or mixer bowl, put the milk, the remaining sugar, honey, eggs and salt.
  • 4 mix well, then add the yeast mixture, then the melted butter.
  • 5 mix in 3 to 4 cups of flour, then stir in more until mixture is the right consistency (forms a soft dough).
  • 6 put dough on a floured board and knead it, adding more flour as necessary, until it's not sticking to the board any more, about 5 minutes.
  • 7 put the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise about 45 minutes.
  • 8 punch the dough down and let rise again until double in size.
  • 9 to shape into rolls, roll out dough on a floured surface and cut with a round biscuit cutter.
  • 10 put a little melted butter in the edge of the pan and roll the edges of the rolls in the butter before placing the rolls close together in the pan.
  • 11 brush the tops with melted butter.
  • 12 let rise, uncovered, in a warm place until double in size.
  • 13 you can do this in an oven you've heated on the lowest setting for just a few minutes until it's warm.
  • 14 bake in a preheated, 400f oven until brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  • 15 makes about 36 rolls.
