Grandma's Raisin Bread

Ingredients

- 1 (15 ounce) box raisins
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 4 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon clove
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
Recipe
- 1 place raisins and 2 cups water in sauce pan and bring to boil for five minutes.
- 2 remove from heat and add 1 cup cold water.
- 3 let cool until it is lukewarm.
- 4 cream together sugar and shortening, then add the salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and baking soda. mix well.
- 5 add raisins and flour to dry mixture. mix well.
- 6 bake in greased and floured cake pan for one hour at 350°f.
- 7 recipe is great as is or add some cream cheese frosting.
