Grandma's Raisin Bread

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 (15 ounce) box raisins
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon clove
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda

Recipe

  • 1 place raisins and 2 cups water in sauce pan and bring to boil for five minutes.
  • 2 remove from heat and add 1 cup cold water.
  • 3 let cool until it is lukewarm.
  • 4 cream together sugar and shortening, then add the salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and baking soda. mix well.
  • 5 add raisins and flour to dry mixture. mix well.
  • 6 bake in greased and floured cake pan for one hour at 350°f.
  • 7 recipe is great as is or add some cream cheese frosting.
