Fruit Scones

Ingredients

- 8 ounces plain flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 1/2 ounces margarine
- 1 ounce caster sugar
- 1 -1 1/2 ounce sultanas or 1 -1 1/2 ounce currants
- bare 1/4 pint milk
Recipe
- 1 sieve together flour, salt, soda and cream of tartar into a bowl.
- 2 rub in margarine.
- 3 add sugar, sultanas (or currants)
- 4 mix to a soft but not sticky dough, with as much milk as necessary. it could leave a tablespoon of milk, knead lightly until smooth.
- 5 roll out 1/2 inch thick, cut into 2 1/2 inch rounds.
- 6 bake on greased tray at gas 7/425°f above centre of oven, about 12 minutes.
