Fruit Scones

Total Time: 22 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 12 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 8 ounces plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 ounces margarine
  • 1 ounce caster sugar
  • 1 -1 1/2 ounce sultanas or 1 -1 1/2 ounce currants
  • bare 1/4 pint milk

Recipe

  • 1 sieve together flour, salt, soda and cream of tartar into a bowl.
  • 2 rub in margarine.
  • 3 add sugar, sultanas (or currants)
  • 4 mix to a soft but not sticky dough, with as much milk as necessary. it could leave a tablespoon of milk, knead lightly until smooth.
  • 5 roll out 1/2 inch thick, cut into 2 1/2 inch rounds.
  • 6 bake on greased tray at gas 7/425°f above centre of oven, about 12 minutes.
