Irish Soda Bread

Total Time: 55 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 10
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 mix first 4 ingredients in a big bowl with a fork.
  • 2 pour in buttermilk and raisins.
  • 3 stir really fast until everything comes together like a ball of clay.
  • 4 knead on a floured board for a few seconds.
  • 5 place on lightly floured baking sheet.
  • 6 cut a deep cross on top, all the way down the sides.
  • 7 bake at 425 about 45 mins, until nicely browned and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • 8 place on rack to cool, or better yet, eat right out of the oven!
