Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 (7 g) envelopes yeast
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 2/3 cup molasses
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening, melted
  • 7 cups flour

Recipe

  • 1 mix sugar, water and yeast, let stand for 20 minutes. soak oats in hot water for 15 minutes.
  • 2 add molasses, salt shortening and yeast to cooled oats. blend. gradually mix in flour, knead until smooth. place in a greased bowl, cover and allow to stand in a warm place until double in bulk. knead slightly and place in two greased loaf pans. cover, let stand in warm place until double in bulk.
  • 3 bake at 350f for 40 minutes.
