Oatmeal Bread

Total Time: 1 hr 30 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw oats
  • 6 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 fresh yeast cake
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup luke warm water
  • 2 cups boiling water

Recipe

  • 1 pour boiling water over oats, molasses, shortening and salt. cool to lukewarm.
  • 2 dissolve yeast in the 1/2 cup lukewarm water and add to the first mixture.
  • 3 work in all the flour and knead until smooth.
  • 4 place in greased bowl, cover and let rise one hour.
  • 5 divide dough in half, shape loaves and place in greased loaf pans.
  • 6 let rise until doubled in bulk.
  • 7 bake at 350 degrees one hour.
  • 8 makes 2 loaves.
