Orange Bowknots

Total Time: 4 hrs 15 mins Preparation Time: 4 hrs Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 24
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange rind
  • 1/4 cup orange juice

Recipe

  • 1 soften yeast in warm water.
  • 2 combine hot milk, shortening, sugar and salt; cool to lukewarm.
  • 3 add remaining ingredients. makes a soft dough; cover and let rise 10 minutes.
  • 4 knead.
  • 5 place dough in a greased bowl; cover; let rise until doubled, about 2 hours.
  • 6 punch down; let rest 10 minutes.
  • 7 roll out in 18" x 10" rectangle, 1/2 inch thick.
  • 8 cut strips 10 inches long x 3/4 inch wide.
  • 9 roll strip and tie in knot.
  • 10 put on baking sheet.
  • 11 let rise until double.
  • 12 bake for 12 minutes in a 400°f oven.
  • 13 you can ice with orange icing.
