Orange Bowknots

Ingredients

- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 cup scalded milk
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 5 1/2 cups flour
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons grated orange rind
- 1/4 cup orange juice
Recipe
- 1 soften yeast in warm water.
- 2 combine hot milk, shortening, sugar and salt; cool to lukewarm.
- 3 add remaining ingredients. makes a soft dough; cover and let rise 10 minutes.
- 4 knead.
- 5 place dough in a greased bowl; cover; let rise until doubled, about 2 hours.
- 6 punch down; let rest 10 minutes.
- 7 roll out in 18" x 10" rectangle, 1/2 inch thick.
- 8 cut strips 10 inches long x 3/4 inch wide.
- 9 roll strip and tie in knot.
- 10 put on baking sheet.
- 11 let rise until double.
- 12 bake for 12 minutes in a 400°f oven.
- 13 you can ice with orange icing.
