Oatmeal Bread

Total Time: 2 hrs 30 mins Preparation Time: 2 hrs Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 ounces yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 -6 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 4 tablespoons shortening

Recipe

  • 1 soften yeast in warm water with honey.
  • 2 combine milk and water and shortening
  • 3 scald
  • 4 mix in sugar and salt.
  • 5 stir until melted.
  • 6 when lukewarm
  • 7 add 2 cups flour.
  • 8 add yeast mixture
  • 9 then oats.
  • 10 add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough
  • 11 knead until smooth and satiny.
  • 12 about 10 minutes
  • 13 place in greased bowl and brush top with melted shortening
  • 14 let rise 1 hour
  • 15 punch down let rest 10 minutes
  • 16 shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 by 5 by 3 inch pans
  • 17 brush with melted shortening
  • 18 let rise about 45 minutes
  • 19 bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
