Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients
- 2 1/4 ounces yeast
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 6 -6 1/2 cups flour
- 2 cups oatmeal
- 4 tablespoons shortening
Recipe
- 1 soften yeast in warm water with honey.
- 2 combine milk and water and shortening
- 3 scald
- 4 mix in sugar and salt.
- 5 stir until melted.
- 6 when lukewarm
- 7 add 2 cups flour.
- 8 add yeast mixture
- 9 then oats.
- 10 add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough
- 11 knead until smooth and satiny.
- 12 about 10 minutes
- 13 place in greased bowl and brush top with melted shortening
- 14 let rise 1 hour
- 15 punch down let rest 10 minutes
- 16 shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 by 5 by 3 inch pans
- 17 brush with melted shortening
- 18 let rise about 45 minutes
- 19 bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
