Real Indian Fry Bread

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 10
  • 3 cups flour (sifted)
  • 2 1/2 cups lukewarm milk (or water if milk is not available, like if you're camping!)
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (or salt, if you don't want it to be sweet-tasting)
  • shortening (to deep-fry)

Recipe

  • 1 mix dry ingredients.
  • 2 add liquid and roughly mix.
  • 3 heat shortening in an iron skillet (about 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep).
  • 4 drop dough from greased slotted spoon into hot shortening and deep fry until lightly golden brown, turning once to brown both sides.
  • 5 drain on paper towels.
  • 6 serve buttered with cinnamon and/or powdered sugar. yum!
