Ferrycarrig Traditional Irish Brown Bread

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup natural bran
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 cups whole meal flour (whole wheat with a little wheat germ)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup dry oatmeal
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 quart buttermilk

Recipe

  • 1 mix all dry ingredients together.
  • 2 add buttermilk.
  • 3 place mixture into greased loaf pan.
  • 4 bake 475 degrees for 15 minutes.reduce temp 350 degrees.bake 60 minutes.
  • 5 remove bread from oven.
  • 6 wrap loaf in damp cloth.
  • 7 allow to stand for 3 hours before cutting -- .
