Easy Cornbread

Ingredients

- 2 tablespoons crisco shortening or 2 tablespoons bacon grease
- 2 cups self-rising cornmeal
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk (more or less as needed)
Recipe
- 1 melt the shortening or grease in a 10-inch cast iron skillet in the oven as its preheating to 400 degrees meanwhile, combine the remaining ingredients.
- 2 don't overbeat.
- 3 mix until just combined and batter looks a little grainy.
- 4 pour the hot grease from the skillet into the batter and mix.
- 5 it will sizzle and smoke a little.
- 6 pour the batter into the skillet and bake for 20-25 minutes.
