Easy Cornbread

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 2 tablespoons crisco shortening or 2 tablespoons bacon grease
  • 2 cups self-rising cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk (more or less as needed)

Recipe

  • 1 melt the shortening or grease in a 10-inch cast iron skillet in the oven as its preheating to 400 degrees meanwhile, combine the remaining ingredients.
  • 2 don't overbeat.
  • 3 mix until just combined and batter looks a little grainy.
  • 4 pour the hot grease from the skillet into the batter and mix.
  • 5 it will sizzle and smoke a little.
  • 6 pour the batter into the skillet and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  • 7 cut into wedges and serve with butter.
