Irish Brown Bread

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • 4 cups wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Recipe

  • 1 preheat the oven to 400°f.
  • 2 mix dry ingredients.
  • 3 stir in enough buttermilk to make the dough soft.
  • 4 dust the work surface with wheat flour. knead the dough until smooth.
  • 5 form dough into a circle about 1 1/2 inches thick.
  • 6 mark a deep cross in the top with a floured knife.
  • 7 put on parchment paper and place on a baking sheet.
  • 8 bake for 45 minutes or until bread is browned and sounds hollow when tapped on the base.
  • 9 cool on a wire rack and wrap in a clean tea towel to keep soft.
