Irish Brown Bread

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup natural bran
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk or 2 cups soured milk
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil

Recipe

  • 1 in large bowl measure in flours, bran, sugar, baking soda and salt.
  • 2 mix together and make a well in center.
  • 3 pour in buttermilk and oil.
  • 4 stir just to moisten.
  • 5 scrape into greased 9x5x3 loaf pan.
  • 6 bake at 350 for 1 hour.,.
  • 7 remove from pan to cool.
  • 8 serve plain or toasted.
  • 9 irish raisin bread; add 1 cup raisins.
