Pennie's Health Bread

Total Time: 4 hrs 5 mins Preparation Time: 3 hrs 30 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup instant milk
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons oat bran
  • 2 tablespoons wheat germ
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup vital wheat gluten
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Recipe

  • 1 mix yeast, sugar and 1/4 cup of the water. let sit til bubbly.
  • 2 add wet ingredients, then dry ingredients. knead for 15 minutes.
  • 3 let rise for about 2 hours.
  • 4 punch down and form into a loaf. let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  • 5 bake at 375°f for 35 minutes.
