Ingredients
- 900 ml warm water
- 1 tablespoon treacle or 1 tablespoon molasses
- 1/2 compressed yeast cakes (crumbled) or 1 tablespoon dried yeast
- 900 g wholemeal flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
Recipe
- 1 place in a bowl; water, treacle, & yeast. leave to stand for a few minutes.
- 2 place in a large bowl: flour & salt.
- 3 grease two 500g loaf tins well with butter.
- 4 beat liquids with a rotary beater and pour into a well in the flour. mix toghether and place in tins. leave in a warm place to rise and then bake about 40 minutes at 190'c.
- 5 if you would like a coarse crunchy loaf, use coarse ground flour and add 1c kibbled wheat ro rye, leaving out about 1/2c flour. other flours such as rye can be used instead of all or part wholemeal.
