Irish Dark Soda Bread

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups buttermilk

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit.
  • 2 grease two loaf pans.
  • 3 sift all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda and baking powder together into a large bowl.
  • 4 add brown sugar and stir well to incorporate, being very careful to break up any lumps of brown sugar.
  • 5 add buttermilk and stir well.
  • 6 divide the dough between the two prepared loaf pans.
  • 7 bake for about 45 minutes or until brown and crunchy.
  • 8 cool on wire racks.
