Orange Upside-down Oven Biscuits

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3 -4 tablespoons shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Recipe

  • 1 for the topping:.
  • 2 combine ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until butter and sugar melt, about two minutes.
  • 3 divide the topping among a standard muffin tin.
  • 4 do not line the muffin tin with paper baking cups.
  • 5 for the biscuits:.
  • 6 preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  • 7 sift the flour, salt and baking powder into a large bowl.
  • 8 cut in the shortening with two knives or a pastry blender until it forms coarse, uneven crumbs.
  • 9 add the milk.
  • 10 mix well, but with a light touch.
  • 11 on a flour-dusted surface,roll the dough into a large rectangle.(approx 11x9).
  • 12 spread with butter.
  • 13 mix the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle it over the dough.
  • 14 roll as you would a jelly roll and slice into 12 biscuits.
  • 15 place a single biscuit in each muffin cup.
  • 16 bake until golden, about twenty minutes.
  • 17 cool a couple of minutes,then invert cautiously onto a plate,taking care that the sticky topping doesnt burn you.
