Elephant Ears

Total Time: 55 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons shortening
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 4 cups flour

Recipe

  • 1 mix milk, sugar, salt and shortening.
  • 2 heat until shortening melts, but don't boil.
  • 3 cool to lukewarm.
  • 4 add yeast and stir until dissolved.
  • 5 stir in flour 2 cups at a time, beating until smooth.
  • 6 place dough into a greased bowl.
  • 7 cover with a damp cloth and let rise until double in size (about 30 minutes).
  • 8 dust hands with flour.
  • 9 pinch off pieces about the size of golf balls.
  • 10 roll into thin 6-8 inch circles.
  • 11 fry one at a time until it rises to the surface.
  • 12 turn and fry until light brown.
  • 13 drain in paper.
  • 14 sprinkle generously with sugar and/or cinnamon& sugar.
