Jam Busters

Total Time: 2 hrs 8 mins Preparation Time: 2 hrs Cook Time: 8 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 16
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110f)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar, divided
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 3 tablespoons jam
  • 1 egg , beaten
  • oil (for deep frying)

Recipe

  • 1 in a bowl disolve yeast in warm water.
  • 2 add milk ,soft butter,1/3 cup sugar,egg yolks and salt.
  • 3 mix well.
  • 4 stir in enough flour to form a soft dough.
  • 5 do not knead.
  • 6 place in a greased bowl turning once to grease top.
  • 7 place in a warm draft free place til double,about 90 minutes.
  • 8 punch dough down
  • 9 knead about 10 times.
  • 10 divide in half.
  • 11 roll to 1/4 inch thickness and cut with floured 2 1/2 inch round cutter.
  • 12 place 1/2 tsp jam in center
  • 13 brush edges with egg whites.
  • 14 cover and seal tightly.
  • 15 cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  • 16 fry at 375f for 1-2 minutes per side.
  • 17 drain on paper towels
  • 18 roll in remaining sugar while still warm.
